Former reality television personality and wellness influencer Sam Wood is seeking bail through Queensland’s Supreme Court after a magistrate refused to release him while he faces two domestic violence charges.
Wood, 46, was arrested in Noosa in early October and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting. The allegations concern an incident involving his wife, Snezana Wood. The charges have not been proven in court.
At an earlier bail hearing in Maroochydore, prosecutors opposed his release and referred to the seriousness of the allegations and an alleged earlier incident in Victoria. The court also heard defence submissions citing a psychologist’s assessment that Wood was experiencing severe depression. The magistrate refused bail and remanded him in custody.
Wood denies the allegations and his lawyer has said he intends to defend the charges. An earlier alleged incident in Victoria was also raised during the bail proceedings, but the court was told that allegation had not resulted in charges. It must not be treated as proof of criminal conduct.
Wood’s legal team is now pursuing a further bail application in the Supreme Court. Reports indicate the substantive hearing is not expected until next month, although a final hearing date has not been confirmed publicly. He remains in custody while the application is pending.
Wood became widely known after appearing on The Bachelor Australia in 2015 and later built a public profile through fitness and wellness businesses. The next major development in the case will be the Supreme Court’s consideration of whether he should be released on bail while the charges proceed.
