Labor MP Josh Wilson has covered the Woodside Energy logo on his Fremantle Dockers jumper ahead of Saturday’s AFL grand final.

Wilson, the federal assistant minister for climate change and energy, said the photograph was a family picture taken from a relative’s social media account. He said he would attend the grand final in Fremantle and wanted to show his support for the Dockers.

Why the Woodside logo was covered

The image emerged as campaigners opposing Woodside’s sponsorship of Fremantle continue the Get Off My Chest campaign, which calls for the club to end its partnership with the energy company.

Musician Kevin Parker, the frontman of Tame Impala, recently covered the Woodside logo on a Fremantle shirt. Other supporters of the campaign include novelist Tim Winton and independent senator David Pocock.

Campaign organiser Clare Lagan said supporters had received hundreds of patches to cover the Woodside logo since the campaign began in May.

Wilson responds

Wilson said the photograph reflected his support for Fremantle and his view that people should be able to express their values through peaceful campaigns.

He said he was looking forward to the grand final and to supporting the Dockers alongside other Fremantle fans.

Woodside defends sponsorship

Woodside said it was proud of its partnership with Fremantle, which has lasted for more than 15 years. The company said the sponsorship was set to continue until at least the end of 2027.

Woodside also said it was pleased with Fremantle’s performance during the 2026 season and looked forward to continuing its relationship with the club.

Fremantle prepares for grand final

Fremantle will play the Brisbane Lions in Saturday’s AFL grand final. The Dockers are seeking the club’s first premiership since entering the competition in 1995 and will be appearing in only their second grand final.
