Former Nationals leader Michael McCormack says he believes David Littleproud has the numbers to survive a potential spill motion expected later today.
Speaking on ABC RN Breakfast, McCormack described the challenge as part of the democratic process, saying party members were entitled to put their hands up for leadership.
McCormack said he expected Littleproud to maintain his position but added the outcome would only be known once the party room meeting concluded.
He acknowledged internal tensions within the Nationals, noting that colleague Colin Canavan was unhappy with how matters were unfolding.
McCormack also said he was uncertain if or how a reunified Coalition would form, adding that any agreement would require “cool heads, diplomacy, discipline and common sense”.
