Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong says she is not focused on One Nation’s reported fundraising success, arguing that the party’s policies are a more significant concern.
Her comments came after Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party claimed it had raised more than $1.5 million in the past day, although the figure has not been independently verified.
Speaking about the party, Wong said she was less interested in how much money One Nation was raising and more concerned about its political agenda.
“I’m less interested in what Pauline Hanson fundraises and am more concerned about One Nation’s policies,” Wong said.
She also criticised what she described as growing cooperation between One Nation and the Liberal Party.
“Just as I am concerned about the fact that the Liberal party and One Nation seem to be working together and that it appears to be very clearly that a vote for One Nation is actually a vote for the Liberal party, and a vote for the Liberal party is actually a vote for One Nation,” she said.
Wong further argued that One Nation was effective at generating public anger but offered few practical solutions.
She said the party was “very good at provoking anger” but had “very little to say” about solutions.
The comments represent a political criticism of One Nation and its relationship with the Liberal Party following the party’s fundraising claims.
