Victorian premier Jacinta Allan is facing declining public support, according to a new Freshwater Strategy poll conducted for the Herald Sun.
The poll found Victorian Labor’s primary vote has fallen to 23%, placing it behind both the Coalition on 27% and One Nation on 25%. If those results were repeated at the November state election, Labor’s 12-year-old government would lose office.
On a two-party-preferred basis, the Coalition leads Labor by 53% to 47%, indicating a significant challenge for the government ahead of the election.
According to the pollster, respondents believe it is time for Allan to move on as premier. However, the Coalition would still need to gain 16 additional seats to secure majority government.
Allan’s personal popularity also declined. Her net favourability rating fell by five points to minus 37, placing her well behind Victorian Liberal leader Jess Wilson, who recorded a positive net rating of 15.
The survey found only 25% of respondents believed Allan would make the better premier, while 49% said Wilson would do a better job.
