Opposition leader Angus Taylor has suggested the Coalition could work with One Nation as it seeks to defeat the Labor government.
Speaking to reporters, Taylor pointed to growing support for One Nation in recent polling and said Australians were increasingly frustrated with the government.
When asked about the possibility of preference arrangements with Pauline Hanson’s party, Taylor said: “We’ll work with others to get rid of this rotten Labor government.”
He added that decisions about preferences would ultimately be made by party organisations over time.
Taylor later commented on suggestions that the Western Australia Liberal leader had left open the possibility of working with One Nation to form government in the state.
“We’ll work with whoever we can to defeat Labor,” Taylor said.
He also criticised the government, saying: “It’s got to go. It has failed Australians. This prime minister has failed Australians. This treasurer has failed Australians, and we’ll work with whoever we have to get rid of this toxic Labor government and their toxic taxes.”
The comments come as One Nation’s polling support attracts increased political attention ahead of future electoral contests.
