Anthony Albanese has arrived in Jakarta to sign a security treaty with Indonesia as key details remain undisclosed.
Albanese will meet Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto to sign the Australia-Indonesia Treaty on Common Security.
The treaty was announced in November but its contents have largely not been made public.
Foreign minister Penny Wong is accompanying the prime minister and will meet her Indonesian counterpart Sugiono.
This is Albanese’s fifth visit to Indonesia as prime minister and his first overseas trip since winning re-election in 2025.
Albanese told parliament the agreement marked a proud moment in bilateral relations.
Australian Strategic Policy Institute analyst Gatra Priyandita said the treaty could be viewed positively within the broader relationship.
