Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has highlighted recent deportation operations as her government continues to emphasise stronger immigration controls and the removal of people who do not have the legal right to remain in Italy.

In a social media post on September 11, Meloni said Italy’s rules must be respected and that people who commit crimes and have no right to stay are expelled and repatriated.

She also said her government would continue working to strengthen controls, make expulsions more effective and improve security for citizens.

The post included video footage showing Italian police escorting people from a facility and accompanying them as they boarded an aircraft in what was presented as a deportation operation.

Meloni’s message comes as immigration enforcement remains a central issue for her government, with the administration continuing to promote deportations and tighter border controls as part of its approach to migration and public security.

The footage and accompanying statement highlight the government’s position on removing people who are considered to have no legal right to remain in Italy, while the broader effectiveness and implementation of deportation policy remain subjects of public and political debate.
