Daniel Billings has been sentenced to 28 years in jail for the murder of Molly Ticehurst, with the court imposing a 20-year non-parole period.

Billings, 31, was sentenced by Justice Natalie Adams in the Orange Supreme Court after pleading guilty to murdering his former partner at her Forbes home in April 2024.

Ticehurst, a 28-year-old childcare worker and mother, was killed after Billings broke into her bedroom through a window late on April 21, 2024. He stabbed her several times with a hunting knife.

Justice Adams found the offending was at the high end of seriousness and said Billings carried out the murder in the way he had previously threatened.

The court heard Ticehurst had reported allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence to police before her death. Justice Adams described the killing as a serious public justice offence because Ticehurst was a potential witness in proceedings against Billings.

Billings pleaded guilty to murder in November 2025. His sentence was reduced from a total of 35 years to 28 years because of the guilty plea.

He will first be eligible for parole in April 2044.
