Labor MPs push Wells on delayed gambling ad ban

Labor MPs are pressing the government to move faster on gambling advertising reforms, citing growing frustration over delays in responding to a key parliamentary report.

Documents released under freedom of information laws show the department of communications and sport has raised concerns about how proposed gambling ad restrictions could affect sporting codes and media companies.

Several Labor MPs say they have been seeking a meeting with Communications and Sports Minister Anika Wells for months, arguing their concerns have not been adequately heard.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the delay, saying his government has introduced more gambling reforms than any previous administration and will continue working through outstanding issues.

The government remains under pressure to respond to the Murphy review, which recommended a phased ban on online gambling advertising, as support for reform grows across parliament.
