Health Minister Mark Butler has described a suspected murder-suicide in Perth as an “unspeakable tragedy” while declining to comment on matters under police investigation.
Health Minister Mark Butler has expressed condolences following a suspected double murder-suicide in Mosman Park, in Perth’s western suburbs.
Two brothers, Otis, 14, and Leon, 16, who lived with disabilities, were found dead at their home on Friday morning. Their parents were also found dead at the scene. Police have confirmed the boys had significant health challenges.
Speaking to reporters, Butler described the deaths as “the most awful tragedy”.
“It’s an awful tragedy at so many different levels, but particularly the loss of two children’s lives who obviously did not choose to die, is an unspeakable tragedy,” he said.
Butler acknowledged public commentary in Western Australia regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme supports the children were receiving but said it was not appropriate to draw conclusions.
“I don’t want to say anything that would impact the police investigation,” he said.
He said the National Disability Insurance Agency was cooperating fully with police to the extent it could assist the investigation.
