Liberal senator James Paterson says he would “absolutely” back Sussan Ley if a leadership spill were called.
James Paterson said he was not pushing for a leadership spill despite ongoing speculation within the Coalition.
Speaking to Sky News, Paterson said he had consistently argued against a spill, both publicly and privately.
Asked whether he would support Sussan Ley in the event of a ballot, Paterson said his support was clear.
He said backing a spill would require him to resign from the shadow cabinet and the leadership group, which he had not done.
Paterson said this demonstrated his continued support for Ley’s leadership.
