Metro Tunnel hit by power fault

Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel has been disrupted on its second full day of operation after a power fault forced train suspensions and bus replacements.

Some services running through Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel were rerouted on Tuesday evening due to a power fault affecting overhead wires near Armadale.

The Victorian Department of Transport said buses were replacing trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, as well as the Sunbury line, between West Footscray and Caulfield.

The department said the fault was impacting some services running through the Metro Tunnel, which has only just begun operating at full capacity.

Cranbourne and Pakenham passengers were advised to change at State Library or Town Hall stations and use City Loop services to connect with the Frankston line at Caulfield.

Sunbury line passengers were advised to switch to Werribee or Williamstown services at West Footscray.

Trains continued to operate between Caulfield and Cranbourne or Pakenham, and between Sunbury and West Footscray, but delays were expected.

V/Line services to Traralgon and Bairnsdale were also affected.
