Littleproud digs in over Coalition split

Nationals leader David Littleproud has doubled down on the Coalition rift, rejecting claims his party broke shadow cabinet solidarity.

David Littleproud said the joint party room process was not followed during debate on the hate speech laws.

Speaking on Sky News, Littleproud argued Nationals MPs had every right to cross the floor after being denied internal debate.

He said the Nationals would not become “a factional Liberal Party” and accused Coalition leadership of sidelining established processes.

Littleproud defended the decision to submit resignation letters, saying they were sent “out of respect” to Sussan Ley.

He said a fourth letter made clear the Nationals did not believe they breached solidarity and warned all frontbenchers would walk if the resignations were accepted.
