Former Liberal MP Jenny Ware says it is embarrassing that the federal government released the party’s internal election review rather than the Liberal Party itself.
Ware, who lost the New South Wales seat of Hughes in the 2025 federal election, said the report should have been made public by the party in the interests of transparency.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tabled the review in parliament earlier this week, bringing public attention to the internal assessment of the Coalition’s election campaign.
The report was prepared by former Liberal senator Nick Minchin and former NSW minister Pru Goward.
Ware said she met with the authors as part of the review process last June but had not heard from them since.
She argued the party owed an explanation to its members, supporters and donors following what she described as the worst campaign in the party’s history.
Ware also said candidates who contested the election deserved clearer answers about the campaign outcome, noting that many had put their personal and professional lives on hold to run.
She added that the Liberal Party needed to strengthen its engagement with women, both as voters and as candidates, and improve the representation of women within party structures.
