Hanson, Bernardi cheered at Adelaide presser

Pauline Hanson and Cory Bernardi were met with flags and chants as One Nation unveiled its new recruit in Adelaide.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson appeared alongside former senator Cory Bernardi at a press conference in Adelaide.

Supporters waved Australian flags and shouted slogans including “prime minister”, “Aussie Aussie Aussie” and “Trump”.

Bernardi has been announced as One Nation’s lead Legislative Council candidate in South Australia.

Hanson spoke about cost-of-living pressures and repeated claims about mass migration and parental alienation syndrome.

She also attacked the South Australian Liberal Party, saying there was effectively no opposition at state or federal level.

Bernardi was questioned about his past party changes, from the Liberal Party to Australian Conservatives and later as an independent.

He said there was “no doubt” he would remain with One Nation.

Asked whether he was speaking to Liberals about defecting, Bernardi said he was “always looking to recruit”.

Hanson denied speaking with Liberal backbencher Alex Antic, but said she was not ruling anything out.

She also dismissed speculation that anti-abortion activist Joanna Howe was being considered as a candidate.
