Colin Boyce launches bid for Nationals leadership

Nationals MP Colin Boyce has announced a challenge to party leader David Littleproud, citing anger over the Coalition’s recent breakdown.

Boyce, a cattle farmer from central Queensland, said the implosion of the Coalition last month had left the Nationals diminished, describing the party as “the nothing party”.

Elected to the Queensland parliament in 2017, Boyce later entered federal politics after winning the seat of Flynn in 2022. During his political career, he has crossed the floor on several key votes and has been outspoken on climate and energy policy.

Boyce said internal disputes and leadership tensions in Canberra could have been avoided, but were driven by personalities and egos.

Despite speculation, Boyce has ruled out leaving the Nationals, saying he remains committed to the party he joined decades ago, even as questions remain over his level of support in the party room.
