Nationals leader David Littleproud says declining support for major political parties means many once-safe seats are becoming more competitive.
Speaking on Sky News, Littleproud acknowledged growing dissatisfaction among voters, saying polling suggests Australians are increasingly disillusioned with the political system.
His comments followed questions about a leaked internal review of the New South Wales Nationals, which found the party’s electoral base is narrowing and that some traditionally secure seats are becoming more vulnerable.
The review reportedly highlighted that support for the party is becoming concentrated among older male voters, particularly those aged over 55.
Littleproud said the shift reflects broader changes in Australian society and the fragmentation of political support across multiple parties and movements.
He said the centre-right vote has divided among several political forces, while the left side of politics is also split between Labor, the Greens and Teal independents.
According to Littleproud, this evolving political landscape means parties must adjust their strategies and communicate their policies more effectively to voters.
He said the current environment presents both a challenge and an opportunity for political parties seeking to rebuild public support.
