Allan urges Labor caucus to deliver new solutions in Victoria

Jacinta Allan has urged Victorian Labor MPs to deliver “new solutions” as the party prepares for the November state election.

The premier addressed the Labor caucus in Melbourne on Monday morning, after the party’s annual retreat was cancelled last week due to a national cabinet meeting to finalise a $25bn health and hospital agreement.

Allan said a Labor government must respond to challenges facing families, including rising cost-of-living pressures, navigating the health system and finding affordable housing in preferred locations.

She also defended the government’s “adult time for violent crime” laws, which allow children who commit serious violent offences to be sentenced in the county court, where longer penalties apply.

The premier criticised opposition disunity, drawing comparisons with past Coalition campaigns and warning voters faced a choice between Labor investment and Liberal cuts.
