Malarndirri McCarthy has urged Australians to remain vigilant following an alleged attempted bombing at an Invasion Day protest in Perth.
Police charged a 31-year-old man with terrorism over the alleged attempted bombing.
Authorities allege the man accessed “pro-white” material online and was motivated by hate and racism.
McCarthy said First Nations people felt scared, angry and confused after the incident.
She told RN Breakfast the episode highlighted the need for stronger social cohesion across Australia.
McCarthy said the incident had not received enough attention from political leaders and parts of the media.
She called on Australians to report concerning behaviour to authorities and engage in respectful debate.
