Bowen grilled over broken $275 energy bill pledge

Energy Minister Chris Bowen was pressed in parliament over the government’s abandoned $275 household energy bill promise as the exchange descended into heckling.

Nationals MP Llew O’Brien asked Bowen when households would receive the $275 energy bill reduction promised during the 2022 election campaign.

The government later backed away from the pledge.

Bowen responded by saying wholesale energy prices were coming down.

O’Brien immediately raised a point of order, questioning whether Bowen was acting as the energy minister or a “Duracell sales rep”.

A voice from the opposition benches then shouted that Bowen was “definitely a bunny”.

Bowen returned to the dispatch box and criticised former energy minister Angus Taylor over the decision to delay the release of an energy price report until after the 2022 election.
