The New South Wales government has endorsed 16 major investment projects valued at $34.4 billion through its newly established Investment Delivery Authority.
The authority, created in the state budget this year, is designed to help large projects progress through regulatory processes. While the government is not directly funding the developments, the body offers companies dedicated support to navigate planning approvals and infrastructure coordination.
Most of the endorsed proposals involve clean energy development. Thirteen projects relate to renewable energy or battery storage, including wind and solar installations and AGL’s Hunter Energy Hub.
The list also includes the Hunter Gas Pipeline project, owned by Hunter Gas Pipeline Pty Ltd, which was acquired by Santos in 2022. The approved pipeline route runs from Wallumbilla in Queensland to Newcastle in New South Wales and passes near Santos’ Narrabri gas project.
Two tourism developments were also endorsed, together valued at $482 million. One is the proposed Vuez Eco Resort on the shores of Lake Jindabyne, described as a future-focused eco-tourism destination designed around sustainable alpine tourism.
The second involves redevelopment of a heritage-listed warehouse near Sydney’s Central Station that was heavily damaged in a major fire in May 2023.
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said the authority aims to ensure significant investment proposals receive coordinated government attention.
Further proposals, including data centre developments requiring large-scale energy and water infrastructure, are expected to be considered by the authority in future rounds.
