Clive Palmer has accused US political strategist Steve Bannon of lying after claims emerged linking him to Palmer’s $60m federal election advertising blitz.
Mining billionaire Clive Palmer has rejected claims by rightwing strategist Steve Bannon that Bannon was behind Palmer’s controversial $60m advertising campaign at the 2019 federal election.
The claims appeared in a text message released by the US Department of Justice as part of material linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which Bannon said he had Palmer run anti-China and climate change ads.
Speaking at Parliament House, Palmer confirmed Bannon had contacted him by phone but said the advertisements were already running at the time.
Palmer said Bannon played no role in the campaign and denied ever meeting Epstein.
He said the claim was false and accused Bannon of fabricating his involvement.
