Randa Abdel-Fattah will appear at Adelaide’s breakaway ‘Not Writers’ Week’ festival after her removal from the official writers’ festival triggered resignations and its cancellation.
Palestinian Australian author and academic Randa Abdel-Fattah will appear at the Constellations, also known as ‘Not Writers’ Week’, festival in Adelaide on 1 March.
She will be in conversation with Louise Adler, the former director of Adelaide Writers’ Week, who resigned after Abdel-Fattah’s invitation to the official festival was revoked by its board.
The decision to withdraw Abdel-Fattah’s invitation led to the cancellation of Adelaide Writers’ Week in January, sparking criticism across the literary community.
In response, a grassroots group of authors, publishers and booksellers formed the Constellations festival at short notice, aiming to provide an alternative platform for writers excluded from the official program.
Abdel-Fattah will also appear in a separate event titled Rivers of Reason: Blak & Arab Writers in Conversation alongside writers Melissa Lucashenko, Chelsea Watego, Ali Cobby Eckermann, and Daniel Nour.
