Ley rejects leadership spill rumours

Opposition leader Sussan Ley has dismissed speculation about a leadership challenge as “ridiculous”, amid talk of a possible move by Angus Taylor.

Opposition leader Sussan Ley has swatted away questions about her leadership as rumours swirl inside the Liberal Party.

Speaking on ABC News Breakfast, Ley was asked whether she had spoken to Angus Taylor about a meeting involving senior members of the party’s right faction ahead of the funeral of former Liberal MP Katie Allen.

Ley said Taylor was part of her leadership group and that their discussions had centred on interest rates and the pressures facing Australians.

Asked whether she was concerned Taylor was plotting to replace her, Ley rejected the suggestion outright.

She said claims of a looming spill were being driven by media speculation rather than conversations within the party room.

Ley then sought to pivot the interview back to economic issues, saying her team’s focus remained on inflation and rising interest rates.
