Easter Weekend Weather: Mild Days with Showers as BoM Monitors Potential Cyclone

Must read

Australians can expect a mix of mild temperatures and scattered showers over the Easter long weekend, while meteorologists monitor the potential development of a cyclone in the Coral Sea. According to Petra Stock of The Guardian, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasts a combination of fine days and rain for most capital cities.

Senior meteorologist Jonathan How said no city is expected to be completely dry, yet the weekend should not see widespread heavy rainfall. Sydney will experience showers throughout the weekend, with maximum temperatures in the low to mid-20s Celsius, while Brisbane is expected to reach the high 20s with a chance of rain in the first three days. Coastal areas of Queensland will be windy, with marine wind warnings in effect.

Melbourne and Hobart are forecast to have mostly fine weather from Friday to Sunday, with showers likely on Monday. Canberra will remain mostly dry, with temperatures between 19°C and 25°C. Darwin may see isolated showers, thunderstorms, and temperatures reaching the 30s, while inland Western Australia could experience thunderstorms on Good Friday, potentially affecting Perth. Adelaide is expected to be warm and mostly dry until Monday, when showers are possible.

Meteorologists caution that river and creek levels in Queensland’s north-east tropical coast remain high, and isolated rises may occur if showers develop. Tropical low 37U, located between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, is expected to deepen over the weekend with a high chance of becoming Cyclone Owen by Sunday. Its trajectory toward the Australian coast will be monitored, although it is too early to confirm a landfall.

BoM advises Australians to remain updated with forecasts, especially if planning outdoor activities such as camping or visiting beaches. The cyclone could affect shipping, marine conditions, and local communities, emphasizing the importance of preparedness.
