Anthony Albanese has addressed the federal Labor party room in Canberra ahead of parliament officially resuming on Tuesday.
The prime minister outlined the government’s legislative priorities for the coming sittings, including efforts to tighten gun laws and pass hate speech legislation following the Bondi attack.
Albanese also pointed to planned changes to Medicare aimed at lowering prescription drug prices, the continued rollout of new urgent care clinics, and an expansion of subsidised childcare.
Speaking to colleagues, he said the government had made strong progress during January and would remain focused on delivering reforms in the national interest.
Albanese said the government would prioritise responsible economic management and measures designed to improve Australians’ quality of life as parliament returns.
