Western Sydney International Airport will officially open on 25 October, with its first commercial flight scheduled to depart that morning as the long-awaited aviation hub begins operations.
According to AAP, the inaugural flight will be a Jetstar service from Sydney’s second airport to the Gold Coast, departing at 11am on 25 October.
The airport’s executives say the new facility will help ease pressure on some of Australia’s busiest domestic air routes by increasing airline capacity and travel options.
Jetstar Tickets Go On Sale
Jetstar and Qantas tickets went on sale on Wednesday morning following confirmation of the opening date.
Jetstar will initially operate a combined 21 weekly services linking the airport with Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
The airline is expected to play a key role in establishing early passenger traffic through the new airport.
Qantas to Follow in 2027
While Jetstar will begin flying from the airport immediately after its opening, Qantas will not commence services until March 2027.
The staggered rollout forms part of broader plans to gradually expand operations at the new aviation gateway.
International Routes Already Announced
Two international destinations have already been confirmed for Western Sydney International Airport.
Services to Auckland and Singapore Changi Airport were previously announced as part of the airport’s international network plans.
The opening marks a significant milestone for Sydney’s aviation infrastructure, providing the city with a second major airport as demand for air travel continues to grow.
